Geeking out on emerging technologies in the field of artificial intelligence
Nowadays, computers appear to do a lot more than unravel mathematical equations. In the last half- century, programming has become the ultimate tool to automate tasks and save time, but how much can we automate, and how do we go about doing so? Can a computer observe a photograph and say, “Aha, I see a lovely couple walking over a bridge under an umbrella in the rain”? Can software make medical decisions as accurately as trained professionals can?

Interesting, thanks.

Can software make medical decisions as accurately as trained professionals can?

How about the legal profession? It would be relatively easy to build a library of every legal decision made, analyze a current case in milliseconds and make a recommendation. However, would society consent to being judged, convicted and sentenced by a machine?

One good thing, it would hasten the rapid extinction of an invasive hominid sub-species homo argumentis ... Lawyers! ;)

Cheers.

I believe AI, such as IBM's Watson, will soon drastically improve diagnostic accuracy and treatment optimizations in healthcare. While AI is nowhere near replacing a human doctor, giving a doctor a diagnosis, treatment, and reasoning for such, can make a big difference. In addition to giving a recommendation, AI is also very important in healthcare due to its ability to come to a conclusion based on obscure data in medical records. A patient in the hospital for just a few days can generate hundreds to thousands of pages of data (lab values, vitals, visit reports, SOAP notes, etc). Personally, I can't wait for better AI tools and do not believe that AI will threaten my job.
