Message 403 - Posted: 25 Aug 2020, 16:16:36 UTC

My buffer is empty and I just get a "No tasks sent" message.
https://www.mlcathome.org/mlcathome/results.php?hostid=1518

The status page shows one task in progress, but in fact nothing is running.
I detached and reattached, and that did not fix it. Are you out?

Hi!

Same for me!

None of my computers are getting any new tasks (only once here and there, and very sporadically) and at least one machine is already starving! :-(

I cannot understand it as the status page says there are 32000++ tasks ready to send???

Hope admins will address this issue ASAP!!

Looking into it, no hints as to why yet.

Try now.

Sys-admining BOINC continues to be a pandora's box of surprises.

In trying to solve the the issue with credit not getting assigned because the second result wasn't getting sent out, I changed some things around yesterday which lead to a nice jump in both credit awarded due to clearing out a backlog of WUs waiting for a second valid result, and a nice jump in completed networks (see table on front page). However, I may have been a bit too aggressive, so I've backed off some of those changes for the moment. Let me know if you don't start receiving new WUs within the hour.

I don't have problems getting work. The only unusual thing is that all tasks are re-sends with short or very short deadlines. Maybe too few hosts are eligible for that.

Hi!

Now I'm getting tasks again, for all my computers! :-)

Thanks for a VERY fast response and problem fix!!!

I've run 35 different Boinc projects but never seen such fast and professional project admin before!
I salute you all at MLC!!!

Exactly. Look here https://boinc.berkeley.edu/trac/wiki/ProjectOptions for "Accelerating Retries". I turned on "reliable_on_priority" and friends, and set what I thought was a reasonable threshold, but apparently aimed too low, and the scheduler is (apparently) getting confused.

The flood of results coming in has been nice but not to the point of starving others. There are other settings that should also help the "wingman not sent problem" as well, so I backed off this for now. Some results will still have the accelerated deadlines/priorities, but they should clear out over the next few hours.

That's my working theory anyway, lets see how it pans out.

A small but possibly important correction: I also see some old WUs that apparently had never been sent.

Folks, I've changed the settings yet again for a few more hours to try and clean out the backlog that other users are complaining about. But this time I've changed the definition of a "reliable" host to be much broader than it was before. This should help keep from starving normal users. But I'll be monitoring it closely over the next 12 hours to see what's going on. If you have a machine that stops getting work, please post here ASAP. Thanks.

Hi!
I'm not really a black-belt Linux expert, but it looks to my eyes as you are running a 32-bit Linux variant.
That's really a show-stopper as all applications in MLC are compiled for 64 bit Linux on Intel processors.
Btw., what is the name of the Linux distribution you're running?

First, thanks for your interest in running MLC@Home!

As others have pointed out, there are two problems here. One, the version of linux you're running, based on your package names, is *very* old, either Fedora Core 7, or Centos 6 based. Second, and even more importantly, the system is running 32-bit linux.

MLC@Home's client is built on top of pytorch, which I'm not sure would even compile on 32-bit x86 (although it does work on 32-bit ARM, so in theory its possible). Also, if you're on CentOS, you'll need at least CentOS/RHEL 8 or later, or Ubuntu 14.04 or later, or Fedora 21+ or Debian 8+. Supporting 32-bit x86 and very old distributions is complicated, and a non-starter unless we can get more technical help motivated to support those configurations. So it looks like unless you're willing to update that computer, it won't be able to get tasks from MLC@Home.

Feeder process got stuck ccording to the logs. Should be fixed now, and I think I know what I did to cause it so it shouldn't happen again. Sorry!

Message 924 - Posted: 9 Dec 2020, 2:49:27 UTC

I am not sure if this is the right place to post, but I modified my project settings for 2 of my machines to only get GPU tasks for a few days, but even after I switched the settings back all I get are GPU tasks and no CPU.
This is obviously impacting my contribution and I would like to fix it, but nothing seems to work. I even tried disconnecting the hosts and reconnecting.

Any ideas / help would be appreciated!

Hmm. I'm not sure what the issue would be, but can you verify your preferences (Project->Preferences on this web site) are set such that you'll get projects from both the "mlds" and "mlds-gpu" apps?

Also, is your boinc client (see the event log) requesting tasks for GPU and CPU, or only for GPU? It may be that you have other projects that have filled your CPU work queue, and boinc is "helpfully" seeing that you don't need CPU tasks and asking for GPU ones from the project anyway. There should be indications of that in the event log.

I do not get any GPU tasks any more, says all the time 'got 0 new tasks'. Last week I still got new tasks but now no longer.
What can I do?
