Message 598 - Posted: 5 Oct 2020, 19:34:29 UTC - in response to Message 597.

I started implementing the badges at Free-DC, there seems to be a bunch of inconsistencies in the data.

The tables.xml file which contains the badge data first of all

I don't think it should contain the full url, but more problematic is that it has the wrong names for the images themselves. For instance

https://www.mlcathome.org/badges/badge2-black.png

whereas the url is img/mlds_bronze.png ?

Hey, thanks for letting me know. I'm confused as well.

I just added the badges to the admin interface and then used a lightly modified version of the standard badge_assign_custom.php script (modified to assign RAC badges for overall, and milestone badges for per-project milestones, so nothing about the badge creation) from the BOINC source. And I only added the badges manually through the admin interface because of https://github.com/BOINC/boinc/issues/4045 . Where are you getting the URL "img/mlds_bronze.png" from? It's not in the xml you quoted, so where is it coming from? I wonder if something stale got created somewhere in the DB when I was figuring out what was wrong for the bug above.

I'll take a look soon, but it might not be today/tonight.. might be in a day or two.

The img folder is the default place where Boinc thinks the badges should be.
I'm trying to remember if I just typed in the badge name without a folder or even a url as part of the name into the admin interface.
I'm not home at the moment so can't look on my server to check what I did !

Are you going to export to the BOINC Signature site. https://signature.statseb.fr/

It doesn't work that way. It's up to the signature sites to import the stats from here. This question needs to be asked at the stats sites. (It already has been.)

It has been asked but they might need to be told not to look for the badges in the default badge location https://www.mlcathome.org/mlcathome/img/ but here https://www.mlcathome.org/badges/

Minor update:

I'll try moving over the old credit later this week when (hopefully) we'll have some scheduled downtime to move to the new server. For those who don't have badges yet, give me another week. That'll also coincide with the early adopter badge. I can practice on my own account first :)

Thank you, looking good !

Just wanted to ask whether the badges are implemented only for the CPU version or the combined CPU+GPU credits. As I crossed the 500k threshold a couple days ago, but still remain far below it if only CPU credit is counted towards it, I was just curious as the 500k badge hasn't been assigned yet.

Is the interval for badge assignment rather long or is only CPU credit counted towards the badge credit (either by accident or on purpose)?

Kind of curious either way, who will break the 500M score first? And how long it'll take for anyone to reach 1B.

Maybe the 500M and 1B goals will persuade a few people to buy a supercomputer!

It's based on total credit, so it should be for both. I'll double check the logic.

Did see a 500k badge just pop up now. Anyway, seems to be working for total credit just fine! So it's gonna be a very long way to 500M after I'll hit 1M soon.

How often is the check made to assign new badges based on credit?

Perhaps a few more badges in between 1M and 500M. Maybe every 10M or 20M ?

Don't think it is to much to ask considering we volunteer our computers.

It's definitely gonna be tough and take much longer if you plan on reaching the 500M / 1B badge only with CPUs. You'll need a huge fleet. Eventually, GPUs will get you there much faster. In the end it's long-term committment to the project that will get you one of those badges. Maybe a 250M badge will do the trick to keep the waiting time between 1M and 500M a bit shorter. My guess is that I'll reach the 500M badge by the end of 2027 considering that credit assignment won't considerably change, I'll continue to see a ~6-10% invalid rate of GPU WUs, won't upgrade my current setup and will crunch MLC exclusively (on GPU) :) But surely, in the meantime there will be a GPU upgrade in the next 7 yrs.

500M - 2M = 498M credits remaining
8,320 credits/hr (GPU only / 1660 Super)
8.32k x 24hrs ~ 200k credits/day --> 95% valid --> ~ 190k credits/day
498M / 190k/day = 2621 days or 7.18 yrs to reach 500M
