Confirmed!
I've seen this reported before, but not narrowed down to Windows 7?
After your post, I re-attached a Windows 7 host to MLC and sure enough, Windows task manager shows 11 instances of mlds.exe that should not be there right now. 0 cpu usage but holding onto memory. The host has many more than 11 completed tasks, so it seems that some tasks terminate do properly.

Edit BOINC Synergy
WARNING: this is a BOINC-wide team. If you make changes here, they will soon be overwritten. Edit the BOINC-wide team instead.
I just noticed that BOINC Synergy is a BOINC wide team on MLC@Home but I'm sure the team didn't exist here until I created it manually, so that falls in line with a crashed script?

MLC allows emoji's in the Account name, Team Description and forum thread title but not in a forum post.
18 days ago I was able to create a Thread with no post inside it by including an emoji in the post and crashing it.

using emoji's in their names and descriptions and my DB config complaining about them
Well now. On April 1 (appropriate) I used an emoji for the first time. My life would have been simpler if I didn't do that.
Since then I've tested emoji's on every BOINC forum with varying reactions. Some databases pass the emoji with no problem, others replace the emoji and some just crash.

BOINC Synergy didn't have emoji's in the team description months ago, but they have been added recently to test and indeed several projects where BOINC Synergy is a BOINC wide team have not been able to update the description to include the added emoji's. I assume I'm crashing their script. I'll leave as is for now until I actually look to see all the results, but will likely remove those emojis later.
I'm now pestering databases all over the net with emoji's just to see the varying reactions.
This is probably the largest most wide-spread problem that doesn't seem to matter (but actually does cause corruptions), that I've ever come across.

On 4/14/2021, MLC presented at the 2021 BOINC Workshop. The slides are available here. The video of the presentation will be posted to youtube shortly. On 4/21/2021, we participated on in day 2 of the workshop as a member of a panel on doing AI/ML using BOINC.
Both your presentation on the 14th and yesterday's panel discussion were very interesting and informative. For me, there was new light shed on a subject that I thought I was already familiar with.

I'm gonna have to find some time to find some time to read this slowly.
In the mean time, there was a reddit button at the link, so now you can search for MLDS: A Dataset for Weight-Space Analysis of Neural Networks on reddit. Give it an upvote!

There are awesome additions to the Schedule for The 2021 BOINC Workshop.
Steven Clark from nanoHUB has been added to The World of BOINC presentations on April 14 (only 2 sleeps from now) and Max Ryabinin from Learning@home has been added to Tech Talks on April 21.

Vitalii Koshura - BOINC for Android, Steven Clark - nanoHUB (San Diego Supercomputer Center) and Max Ryabinin - Learning@home have been added to the Speakers List.

The agenda for Community Discussion + Tutorials on April 28 has not been posted yet but World Community Grid Tech Keith Uplinger has an exciting announcement for that day:
"I am planning on doing a tutorial similar to what I did in Chicago about setting up a BOINC server and running from scratch. My plan is to have it run on ubuntu 20.04 for ease of use for those to set it up."

I received my login details to Day 1, "The World of BOINC", on Wednesday, April 14 several hours ago, so they are being sent out now. There's still time to Register for this free event.

BOINC (Berkeley Open Infrastructure for Network Computing) is an open-source software — and community — that enables volunteers to donate spare processing power from their PCs, laptops, and phones, to power vital scientific and medical research.

Aggregated, these resources enable cutting edge research across mathematics, biology, physics, quantum chemistry, climate prediction and more.

The BOINC Workshop is comprised of three sessions. The first will showcase projects that using BOINC, highlighting the role of citizen participation in advancing scientific research. The second is a forum for BOINC projects to discuss the technology, their accomplishments in the past year, and technical needs moving forward. The third is an open-ended community discussion.

Who should attend?
The BOINC Workshop is for anyone interested in harnessing science, technology, and online community to advance knowledge and effect change.

(*Part of the workshop, “Tech Talks” and “Tutorials” will be focused on people running, or interested in running, BOINC projects.)

Where is the Event? How do I participate? Where do I sign up?
This year’s workshop will be online, via Zoom. Please register to get the event URL.

I’d like to present, who do I contact?
If you’d like to speak on any BOINC-related topic (science, technology, community), please register or contact us.

Can I watch a recording later?
We’ll be posting highlights to YouTube - but to participate in Q&A, and other interactive elements of the workshop, it’s best to join us live :)
