Posted 5 Mar 2021 by zombie67 [MM] Post: I am not clear on how to get tasks from the "test" queue. According to the apps page, it requires "Linux running on an AMD x86_64 or Intel EM64T CPU". But if I understand correctly from the above posts, the app is for a GPU, not CPU. FWIW, I do have an AMD VII and the settings are configured to allow both GPU and CPU for the "test" application. Also the server status page says there are 40 tasks available with 8 in progress. Yet I am unable to get any, either for CPU or GPU. What am I doing wrong? |

All my GPU applications have crushed.

Posted 12 Nov 2020 by zombie67 [MM] Post: Yeah, after more experimentation, using *any* of my i5-4590 (4 core, no HT) cores for other BOINC CPU tasks causes the GPU utilization to zero out. In other words, if I run only a single GPU task, GPU utilization is ~40% and CPU utilization is ~50%. If I allow even one other CPU tasks from another project to run, you would think the only thing that would change is that the CPU utilization would increase to ~75%. But that's not what happens. CPU goes up to ~75%, and GPU drops to single digits. Perhaps the chipset bus bandwidth is just maxed out with a single GPU task? This is a very old chipset, after all. I would like to compare this to a more modern chipset, but I can't, because all my new machines just error out (see other threads). |

Just one windows machine with errors
(Message 815)
Posted 12 Nov 2020 by zombie67 [MM] Post: The three machines that have nothing but errors are - Threadripper 3970X, 2x RTX 1660 Ti (Dual boot Win10 and Linux, tasks fail for both) - Threadripper 3970X, 1x RTX 2080 Ti + 1x GTX 1080 Ti (Dual boot Win10 and Linux ,tasks fail for both) - i9-9820X, 2x RTX 1660 Ti (Win10) Latest Nvidia drivers for all three. Not sure what the vbox questions are about? This project doesn't use vbox. These are native tasks. The thing that makes me wonder what's going on is that not even the CPU tasks work. They used to work just fine. Putting aside the GPU problems, something else has changed and is causing problems. |

Posted 12 Nov 2020 by zombie67 [MM] Post: My RTX 1660 Ti runs a single task with a load of around 40%. This is on an old i5-4590 (4 core, no HT). I will also note that it also consumes two full cores. So I set my app_config.xml file to reserve and 2 CPU per GPU task. If I let BOINC use more than two cores for other tasks, the GPU utilization drops way down. <app_config> <app> <name>mldstest</name> <gpu_versions> <gpu_usage>1</gpu_usage> <cpu_usage>2</cpu_usage> </gpu_versions> </app> <app> <name>mlds-gpu</name> <gpu_versions> <gpu_usage>1</gpu_usage> <cpu_usage>2</cpu_usage> </gpu_versions> </app> </app_config> Also, my three other dual GPU, win10 machines continue to fail 100% both CPU and GPU tasks. |

Posted 27 Oct 2020 by zombie67 [MM] Post: This is what I am getting with my linux machines. It doesn't seem like a memory/storage issue. But what do I know. :) <core_client_version>7.9.3</core_client_version> I haven't received a task for my windows machines yet. But if the ram/storage requirements are significantly different, then yes, perhaps a different app is required, so that people can select one and/or the other. |

They are OC to 2ghz and have coolers. But then again, x86/x64 machines have coolers too. OTOH, they use less energy combined than a dim light bulb. |

Posted 23 Oct 2020 by zombie67 [MM] Post: For the record I changed the shmem size buffer to a (much) larger size. Orders of magnitude larger. Lets see if that improves the situation. Hmm. It doesn't seem to be working. Are they pre-assigned to a particular CPU/OS, and there aren't candidates of those flavors asking for tasks? Just guessing. |

Test tasks not sent?
(Message 656)
Posted 17 Oct 2020 by zombie67 [MM] Post: I see that there are two apps, regular and test. And the server status page shows that the test tasks have 3 in progress, with 17 unsent. Why unsent? I have 2 of the 3 tasks in progress running on my Raspberry Pi machines. So I know some are being sent. I also have windows and amd64 linux machines attached and asking for those tasks unsuccessfully. What is holding up the rest of the test tasks from being issued? |
